Separating Solids and Liquids

Today we were separating solids from liquids using three methods: evaporation, filtration and sieving. We used evaporation to separate salt and water, filtration to separate oil and water, and sieving to separate silver shingles and water. We had a lot of fun testing out these methods and now know about evaporation, filtration and sieving.

In Year 5 this week we have been working on our own Fantasy Land maps with feathers, pipe cleaners, felt, mirror card and paper. They got they brains together and used everyone's ideas enjoying it and never wanting to stop. Using fictional islands like Kingdom of Stormhand, Kingdom of Junglewest, Kingdom of Winterborne and last but not least Kingdom of Summerwyn. They also found out words using a riddle

Year 5 have enjoyed their lessons.

The activities were: Javelin, obstacle, sprint, speed bounce, long jump, shot putt and discus. We had to double numbers, write two digit numbers and measure distances, recording our results.

We had a very fun morning, and wish to do it again!

Year 5 comics

Today, Year 5 have produced amazing comic strips about Celtic queen, Boudicca. They went outside and posed out their scenes, before using an app called Comic Life to put together comic strips. They worked in teams of 4, and they all did really well! They used the natural props around them to create swords, spears, javelins, etc. Well done Year Five!

The children enjoyed playing a Tug of War style game using negative numbers and a pair of dice. A simple game but lots of mental maths being done and quickly!

Creating Personal Recounts

Year 5 have been influenced by Michael Morpurgo's 'Kensuke's Kingdom'! The children have produced a wonderful personal recount about being stranded on a desert island!

Explore Learning competition.

Your child has the chance to win a trip for the family to EuroDisney! Two teachers from Explore Learning came into year 5 and taught them about improving their sentences. They have already started to plan their spooky stories and are looking forward to entering their writing into the competition! Good Luck year 5!

Romans vs Celts battle

We designed and made our shields and took part in a 'Capture the Flag' style battle against year 3/4 (The Celts!). The Romans, as always, won the battle - 3 to 1!

Making our own Ploughman's Lunch

These were created during our best of British week. We made our own 'lunch boxes' and baked our own bread. We then shared them with a child from year 1/2! Fantastic effort!
